There was a big surprise tonight on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT during the second week of the Hollywood Quarter-Finals elimination round. Steven Retchless, the male pole dancer made it to the semi finals! To the chagrin of Piers Morgan, who buzzed Retchless’ act mercilessly, Retchless moves forward with three other acts while eight more acts go home. Of the four acts, the judges picked one while the other three were voted for by the people at home. First to stay was, no surprise, the Silhouettes – the spectacular screen dance group of 42. Next to get in was flamboyant singing sensation […]Read On »

The Hollywood quarter-finals competition continues on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT with the next twelve of the remaining 36 vying for the semi finals. However, it was not an exciting night. In fact, it was rather dull with very few exceptions. This week, just like last week, most couldn’t take the heat, easily paving the way for just four to move on to the semi finals with the already four from last week who have made it. Once again, Piers Morgan buzzed four of the 12 acts that, surprisingly, he had something to do with putting through. He is growing ever so […]Read On »

No surprises tonight on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT’s top four picks to move onto the semi-finals. The eight acts left behind didn’t cut it and sadly, were the right choices to send home. Of the four acts picked only one was picked by the judges, the other three were voted for by the people at home the previous night. First to stay was Snap Boogie, the hip-hop break dancer with tons of charisma and a ginormous amount of talent. Eliminated were Duo Aero, the acrobatic act and The Fearless Flores Family, the motorcycle stunt family that had no where else to […]Read On »

TV Review: AMERICA’S GOT TALENT- Season 6 – Hollywood Quarter-Finals – “The First 12 Perform”

The real competition on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT began tonight with twelve of the top 48 performing. In this, the first quarter finals, only 4 of those 12 will go onto the semi-finals – eight will go home for good. The talent is good but the choice is actually not a difficult one to make. Most of the acts have overstayed their welcome and although cute and creative to see at first now they just have a “been there, done that” vibe to them. Judge Piers Morgan was fed up with quite a few of the acts. He actually buzzed four […]Read On »

Just 17 spots remained to complete the 48 AMERICA’S GOT TALENT finalists moving on to Hollywood for the show’s sixth season. The tension was also high as the standbys were ready, well, most of them. There were the usual suspects in attendance: the magicians, the kid acts, the dancers, the dangerous acts and the singers. By the end of the evening over half of them were sent home by Piers Morgan, Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne and the rest were ecstatic jumping for joy. Only two of the five magicians made it through. Without a much needed polished touch, the […]Read On »

They weren’t kidding when they prefaced AMERICA’S GOT TALENT tonight with “Now it gets serious.” No kidding around, over 100 acts were summoned to Vegas and then they were categorized by the judges in three unique areas. The first 12 acts immediately picked were told they didn’t need to audition again. They were going straight to Hollywood for the next round. Then came the judges’ favorites – about 50 performers – who were asked to audition again that night in front of only Piers Morgan, Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne, no audience. Not even Nick Cannon was allowed his comic […]Read On »

Network: NBC Original Telecast: June 29, 2011 A one hour results show for THE VOICE? Really? NBC didn’t feel the need to stretch it to two hours plus? What is wrong with these people! Well, all I can say is Thank you!  Thank you NBC for the most painless results show in the history of these reality singing competitions After whittling the contestants down to four finalists (one from each of the Coaches Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera), it’s now time to crown a champion. First, every contestant got one more chance to sing – […]Read On »

Network: NBC, airs Tuesday nights Original Telecast: June 28, 2011 Now here’s what an AMERICAN IDOL finale should look like – four worthy performers battling it out for the crown. Four quality singers. Four singers who would all make kick-ass albums. And four coaches who currently have pop cultural relevance and are powerhouses in their own right. Hail THE VOICE. The show kicked off with the four Coaches Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton tackling another Queen song – “Under Pressure” and doing it justice. It was much better than their Queen butchering a couple of […]Read On »

TV Review: AMERICA’S GOT TALENT – Season 6 – “New York Auditions 2”

Network: NBC, airs whenever the network wants it to air Original Telecast: June 28, 2011 The question keeps coming up over and over again as I sit and watch hundreds of people make fools of themselves on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT. Why? Why? Why? Don’t these people have loved ones advising them not to go on television and embarrass themselves? I don’t get it. Yet, they keep on coming. Many like Rak & Tak, a married couple, both doctors apparently, aspire to be singers. There is one very, very big, humongous, ginormous problem with their dream – they can’t hold a […]Read On »

The Dork Side: 5 Reasons THE VOICE is better than AMERICAN IDOL

THE VOICE - Season 1 poster | ©2011 NBC

I used to love AMERICAN IDOL. I watched every season. Well, except for this last one. I quit AMERICAN IDOL cold turkey this year, and I never looked back. Honestly, I thought THE VOICE was going to be a lame IDOL ripoff. Instead it has turned out to be a pleasant surprise, addressing many of my problems with AMERICAN IDOL. Not only do I like THE VOICE, I think it is superior to AMERICAN IDOL. Here are the five reasons I think THE VOICE is better than AMERICAN IDOL. 1. THE VOICE isn’t sentimental. No one made it through the […]Read On »
