Much has been said about the move of FRINGE to Friday nights on Fox, but at today’s Winter TCA press tour in Pasadena, CA,  Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly says, “I beg you to not write the eulogy.” “It’s a show we’re passionate about,” says Reilly. “It’s a show we’re passionate about. Friday is a troubled night. Contrary to performance we had on that night, it’s not a free night for us. We’re continually looking for the solution to the night. We were happy to see it show up on a number of top ten lists. It’s like a mini-movie […]Read On »

What would provoke Jennifer Lopez to join the AMERICAN IDOL judging panel with Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler in its 10th Season? How about helping others? While speaking at today’s Fox Winter TCA tour in Pasadena, CA, Lopez admits she wanted to help up and comers. “In this business where I’ve learned a lot of things, I thought about where else I could put [this experience] to good use and help other artists,” Lopez admits. “We’re not here to break people down, we’re here to help kids move through it. At the end of the day, America is voting. We’re […]Read On »

We’re still rocking big time. We have one more album for Sony and we’re working on it at the end of January. We’re starting to write songs. We booked a tour for November and December. While speaking at today’s Fox Winter TCA tour in Pasadena, CA, the AMERICAN IDOL judges and executive producers spoke about what Season 10 will be like. The big question, judge Randy Jackson says, has been who of the judges (Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and himself) are going to be the mean one like former judge Simon Cowell. “I’ve heard a lot of talk of who is going to be the tough one or the mean one,” says Jackson. “You still hear that from all three of us. We give them a full read. If it’s terrible, it’s terrible.” Jackson says […]Read On »

While speaking at today’s Winter TCA tour in Pasadena, CA, Fox’s THE CHICAGO CODE creator and executive producer Shawn Ryan reveals that the original concept of the show changed dramatically from when the pilot was picked up. “I wanted it to be about more than police officers,” he admits. “It became much more than I originally intended.” The original concept revolved around police officers on ridealongs, and through further development it became a multi-layered story about cops who are fighting crime and corruption in the city of Chicago. This also resulted in the re-titling of the series from RIDEALONG to […]Read On »

TV Review: BOB’S BURGERS – Season 1 – “Human Flesh” – Season Premiere

The Belchers on BOB'S BURGERS - Season 1 | ©2011 Fox

Created by Loren Bouchard, BOB’S BURGERS is the latest attempt to find something new, within the familiar family comedy dynamic, but the show tries to hard to be crude and not hard enough to be funny.

This is the kind of comedy that would feel right at home on Comedy Central., but on network television, it feels dragged out and desperate.

DVD/Blu-ray Review: 24 – SEASON 8: THE COMPLETE FINAL SEASON

24 - SEASON 8 - THE COMPLETE FINAL SEASON DVD | ©2010 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment

Day Eight proved to be the final day for 24 the TV series as the real-time series (chronicling a major U.S. crisis in a 24-hour period) waved goodbye in the same aggressive manner in which it began.

Kiefer Sutherland toplined the series as former Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) agent Jack Bauer. Over the course of eight seasons he lost so many of his loved ones, so much of his mind and soul and of course his privacy, he was a man without a country – a man without a home.

TV Review: GLEE – Season 2 – “A Very Glee Christmas”

Naya Rivera and Cory Monteith in GLEE - Season 2 - "A Very Glee Christmas" | ©2010 Fox/Justin Lubin

Not surprising, GLEE’s “A Very Glee Christmas” looks and feels like every other Christmas special out there (hitting all the major beats above), but also manages to put its own twists on the formula as well. We get a major break-up between Finn (Cory Monteith) and Rachel (Lea Michele) – with no happy resolution by episode’s end. And the very important line by Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) at the end of the episode to Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) is the very un-Christmas-like “I hate you.”

TV Review: GLEE – Season 2 – “Special Education”

Darren Criss in GLEE - Season 2 - "Special Education" |©2010 Fox/Justin Lubin

There’s a part of me that would really like to see GLEE do more episodes like “Special Education” and “Never Been Kissed” – ones that actually feel well constructed and tell multiple stories that actually tie together properly. It’s also refreshing, in the case of “Special Education” that Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) isn’t shoved down our throats just to have her there for some unneeded conflict. I love the character, but Sue always works in moderation. In the case, she’s totally M.I.A. and the show, weirdly, is the better for it. No guest stars either. No gimmicks. Just the main cast, who are allowed to thankfully shine.
