FX Networks’s Sunday-night drama series TRUST, concluding tonight, is a dramatization of real-life events in 1973. John Paul Getty III (Harris Dickinson), grandson of the extraordinarily wealthy J. Paul Getty (Donald Sutherland), tries to con some money out of the family. The plan goes south and the young man is kidnapped in Italy. His grandfather won’t pay the ransom. In addition to his odd view of family obligations, the senior Getty keeps not one, not two, but a whole group of mistresses on hand in his mansion. John Thaw played the title role in the BBC’s INSPECTOR MORSE, based on the novels by Colin Dexter, from 1987 through 2000, though seven seasons and five specials, shown in the U.S. on PBS. The character died in the final special, THE REMORSEFUL DAY. Actor Thaw passed away in 2002, after forty-one years as a fixture of British television, with starring roles in THE SWEENEY, A YEAR IN PROVENCE and KAVANAGH Q.C. among the many to his credit. TCA News: PBS says expect ENDEAVOUR, the INSPECTOR MORSE movie prequel, to become a regular series

The popular British detective series INSPECTOR MORSE has been transformed into a one-off TV movie prequel called ENDEAVOUR and is based on Colin Dexter’s novels. The movie has already made its debut in the U.K. on ITV and has proven quite successful. This co-production with the PBS (which will air it this summer on MASTERPIECE MYSTERY!) has already provided talk that a TV series might follow.
