Exclusive Interview: THE CAPE creator Tom Wheeler creates TV’s latest hero

NBC’s THE CAPE airs its final episode tonight, Feb. 28 at 9 PM as it follows framed Palm City police officer Vince Farraday, played by David Lyons. In order to clear his name and get back to his wife and young son, Faraday must clean up his hometown by assuming the identity of comic book superhero the Cape. Alas, the series didn’t bring in the kinds of ratings that would allow it to remain in its competitive Monday night slot. Warner Bros. Pictures presented the Los Angeles Premiere of UNKNOWN, in association with Dark Castle Entertainment, A Panda Production on February 16, at the Regency Village Theater in Westwood. TV Review: THE CAPE – Season 1- “Dice”

Given that THE CAPE’s hero Vince Faraday (David Lyons) is heartily upset about being separated from his wife (Jennifer Ferrin) and young son (Ryan Wynott) – whose sulks about Dad’s absence are driving Mom to tears – and he’s stuck helping his carnival protectors with their crimes, it stands to reason he isn’t exactly crazy about the man who got him into this mess: our main villain Peter Fleming, aka Chess (James Frain). In the episode “Dice,” Vince is unsurprisingly unhappy when his advisor Orwell (Summer Glau) points out that Vince will never get home if Fleming dies, since Vince’s only hope of redemption is proving that Fleming, not Vince, is really Chess. When gorgeous Tracy, aka Dice (Mena Suvari) appears on the scene, Vince is put in the truly aggravating position of having to protect Fleming from the vengeful, brilliant young woman.

“Kozmo” is a shrewdly constructed episode of THE CAPE, almost as tightly woven as the title object, telling us a lot about several characters and the cape itself, while injecting a note of unexpected mysticism and presenting everybody with immediate threats and moral conundrums.
