Movie Review: THE CONTRACTOR

THE CONTRACTOR Key Art | ©2022 Paramount/STX Films

Rating: R Stars: Chris Pine, Ben Foster, Gillian Jacobs, Eddie Marsan, JD Pardo, Kiefer Sutherland, Sander Thomas Writer: J.P. Davis Director: Tarik Saleh Distributor: Paramount/STX Films Release Date (theatrical, on demand and digital): April 1, 2022 THE CONTRACTOR is a movie where it’s difficult to know what the filmmakers are trying to say. It seems likely director Tarik Saleh and writer J.P. Davis have good intentions but lack the nuance to make their points firmly. A more cynical reading is that they are trying to add depth and topicality to a standard action subgenre. Chris Pine stars as James Harper, […]Read On »

HOMELAND: Co-creator Howard Gordon gives the scoop on the final season and the status of a 24 reboot – Interview

Claire Danes in HOMELAND - Season 8 Key Art | ©2020 Showtime/Mark Seliger

HOMELAND launched its first season in 2011. The series, which won an Outstanding Drama Emmy, as well as two Outstanding Lead Actress Emmys, two Outstanding Writing Emmys and more, is now in its eighth and final season Sundays on Showtime. In its first years, HOMELAND was a cat-and-mouse tug of war between returned prisoner-of-war military hero Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) and doggedly determined, bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), who was – correctly – convinced that Brody had been turned by his captors and was secretly a terrorist. Carrie managed to turn Brody back, they became lovers, and he […]Read On »

24: LEGACY: EP Howard Gordon talks returning to the franchise – interview

Corey Hawkins stars in 24: LEGACY | © 2017 Guy D'Alema/FOX

Fox Network’s new Monday-night thriller 24: LEGACY is in some respects its own show. Corey Hawkins stars as military veteran Eric Carter, who begins working with the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) over the course of one intense day, rather than starting out as a seasoned CTU agent like Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer. But this is a legacy of the original 24, with some returning characters – like Carlos Bernard’s Tony Almeida – the same ticking-clock time frame, and a lot of the behind the scenes creative team once again in the driver’s seat. Among the returnees is executive producer Howard Gordon, […]Read On »

David Mazouz [pronounced Da-VEED Ma-ZOOZ] is now in his third season of playing the young Bruce Wayne on Fox Network’s GOTHAM, Mondays at 8 PM. For those who are somehow totally unfamiliar with DC Comics mythology, Bruce will grow up to be Batman. He’s already meeting youthful versions of his future adversaries, including Oswald Cobblepot/the Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), Edward Nygman/the Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) and, perhaps most significantly, not-yet-Catwoman Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova), a street-smart thief who is Bruce’s age. This season, Mazouz is playing two roles – there’s Bruce, and then there’s an unworldly, pain-resistant copy of Bruce, […]Read On »

Kiefer Sutherland in DESIGNATED SURVIVOR - Season 1 | ©2016 ABC/Bob D’Amico

In ABC’s new Wednesday-night drama DESIGNATED SURVIVOR, Kiefer Sutherland stars as Tom Kirkman, a low-level government department head who suddenly finds himself President of the United States when a State of the Union address is lethally attacked by persons unknown. David Guggenheim, who wrote the films SAFE HOUSE and STOLEN, is the creator of DESIGNATED SURVIVOR. There really is such a status, a government member who is kept separate from events in case of an unlikely disaster that takes out the U.S. President, Vice-President and Speaker of the House. The series also deals with Tom’s relationship with his wife, played […]Read On »

Rob Kazinsky stars as Jimmy Pritchard in SECOND CHANCE | © 2016 Justin Stephens/FOX

In SECOND CHANCE, on Fox Network Fridays at 9 PM, Rob Kazinsky plays former sheriff Jimmy Pritchard. Jimmy is in the unusual position of being a 75-year-old man (played in older form by Philip Baker Hall) in a 30-something body, courtesy of a science experiment conducted to save the life of a techno-genius’ dying sister. Resurrecting Jimmy is strictly a byproduct of this as far as his benefactors are concerned, but Jimmy is determined to get to the bottom of the conspiracy that killed his older self and is now threatening his police detective son (Tim DeKay). SECOND CHANCE was […]Read On »

From beginning to end, it was quality TV. Loads of action, loads of Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) being Jack, loads of character deaths, lots of twists and swerves and above all else a smart program that doesn’t just end with fluffy […]Read On »
