As its title suggests, ABC’s Sunday night miniseries TEN DAYS IN THE VALLEY takes place over the course of a week-and-a-half in L.A. County. Kyra Sedgwick (also an executive producer here) stars as TV producer/writer Jane Sadler. Jane, who previously made documentaries, is doing her first drama series, concerned with police corruption, which is closer to reality than some people would like. Jane is also in the middle of a hostile marital separation when her young daughter Lake (Abigail Pniowsky) vanishes from their home in the middle of the night. Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje (when asked, he cordially supplies the correct pronunciation: […]Read On »

In TNT’s MAJOR CRIMES, which has its first-season finale tonight, Monday at 9 PM, a lot of characters in the Major Crimes squad room have had to make an adjustment. Their previous boss, Kyra Sedgwick’s Brenda Leigh Johnson on THE CLOSER, was a results-at-all-costs type. Their new supervisor on the spinoff, Mary McDonnell’s Captain Sharon Raydor, is a former Internal Affairs officer who’s a stickler for the rules. However, for Kearran Giovanni’s character Detective Amy Sikes, who is new to the squad, Raydor is a mentor and a role model. They get along very well. Giovanni worked on the daytime […]Read On »

Michael M. Robin is a man who knows how to multi-task. Having cut his teeth on DOOGIE HOWSER, M.D. and L.A. LAW, winning an Emmy for his work on the latter, and another Emmy for NYPD BLUE, Robin went on to be executive producer of one hundred episodes of NIP/TUCK. This year alone, he’s worked as executive producer on LONGMIRE, the DALLAS reboot and MAJOR CRIMES, directing the pilot episode of this last after having served as one of the executive producers on that show’s predecessor, THE CLOSER. Since we’re on the precinct squad room set for MAJOR CRIMES, which […]Read On »

Tony Denison in MAJOR CRIMES - Season 1 | ©2012 Karen Neal

One of the enduring pleasures of the TNT series THE CLOSER was the sparring between Anthony Denison’s character LAPD Detective Lieutenant Andy Flynn and G.W. Bailey’s character Lieutenant Louie Provenza. The characters and their dynamic have now moved over to THE CLOSER’s spin-off MAJOR CRIMES – both series created by James Duff – which airs Mondays at 9 PM on TNT, even though Kyra Sedgwick’s Brenda Leigh Johnson has left and the squad room is now being run by Mary McDonnell’s Sharon Raydor. Veteran actor Denison, a native of Harlem, New York, got his big break playing mobster Ray Luca […]Read On »

It was a bittersweet night for writer/executive producer James Duff. Immediately afterwards, the new series Duff created, MAJOR CRIMES, headed up by Mary McDonnell reprising her CLOSER character of former Internal Affairs operative Sharon Raydor and featuring much of THE CLOSER’s cast, had its series premiere on TNT. The Paley Center for Television in Beverly Hills is having a special event to honor its exhibit […]Read On »
