Rating: R Stars: Mia Goth, Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Uli Latukefu, Giancarlo Esposito, Chloe Farnworth, Halsey, Kevin Bacon, Lily Collins, Simon Prast Writer: Ti West Director: Ti West Distributor: A24 Release Date: July 5, 2024 MAXXXINE, not counting its flashbacks and flash-forwards, is set in 1985. However, it feels more like a ‘70s indie, with its mix of very tough female protagonist, soft porn (meant to be hard porn where we don’t see all the details), detective story, and horror. It’s a completely fun blend, and star Mia Goth commits two hundred and twenty percent to everything she’s […]Read On »

When most people think about Victor Hugo’s sprawling novel LES MISERABLES, originally published in 1862, they associate it with the hugely popular stage musical and its film adaptation. However, LES MISERABLES has been adapted as a straight drama on a number of occasions. The newest version of LES MISERABLES, a miniseries originally produced by and aired on the BBC, begins airing in the U.S. on PBS MASTERPIECE on Sunday, April 14. Dominic West stars as reformed criminal Jean Valjean, trying to live a good life as he is pursued over decades by obsessed law officer Javert (David Oyelowo), with revolution […]Read On »

Movie Review: ABDUCTION

ABDUCTION movie poster | ©2011 Lionsgate

Rating: PG-13 Stars: Taylor Lautner, Lily Collins, Alfred Molina, Jason Isaacs, Maria Bello, Sigourney Weaver, Denzel Whitaker, Michael Nyqvist Writer: Shawn Christensen Director: John Singleton Distributor: Lionsgate Release Date: September 23, 2011 ABDUCTION feels so much like an adaptation of a young adult novel that it’s surprising to see that the script is an original (okay, according to the production notes, it’s based on an un-screen-credited idea by executive producer Jeremy Bell) by Shawn Christensen. Indeed, Christensen turns the original premise, and the title, into something of a red herring. There’s a sense of familiarity about the film, but it’s […]Read On »

Lionsgate presented a Gotham Group/Vertigo Entertainment/Quick Six Entertainment production, in association with Mango Farms the World Premiere of ABDUCTION at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on September 15th. As usual, fans lined the street and some lucky fans were put near us on the black carpet. Screaming as the stars arrived…the loudest for TWILIGHT heartthrob and star of the movie Taylor Lautner. The next loudest screams were for Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. Justin decided to avoid the carpet and walk directly into the theatre to the disappointment of fans and the press. Selena came on the carpet and posed in […]Read On »

By the end, we can’t tell if director Scott Stewart and screenwriter Cory Goodman have intentionally managed to avoid being overly pretentious in adapting Min-Woo […]Read On »

During the press event for IMMORTALS at WonderCon 2011 in San Francisco, director of the film, Tarsem Singh discussed why he hired Lily Collins for the role in the fantasy live-action film, SNOW WHITE which he’s also directing. He had a surprising answer. “Eyebrows,” Singh jokes. “I saw her eyebrows and I said ‘That’s SNOW WHITE.’ I met her when she came in for Isabel [Lucas]’s part of Athena [in IMMORTALS] and she didn’t read for the part or anything. I met her a year ago on IMMORTALS and I only met her for a coffee the day before yesterday […]Read On »
