As the months and episodes keep ticking to the finale of SMALLVILLE after ten seasons, the show continues to explore what it takes to get Clark Kent (Tom Welling) to transform from mild-mannered farmboy to Man of Steel. While at this winter’s CW TCA session, ASSIGNMENT X caught up with SMALLVILLE executive producer Brian Wayne Peterson to chat about the show’s forthcoming end and get some teases about what’s to come. [Note, this interview was conducted before the series returned from winter hiatus and before it was recently announced that Michael Rosenbaum was going to return as Lex Luthor for […]Read On »

Starring: Tom Welling, Erica Durance, Allison Mack, Justin Hartley Writer: Jordan Hawley Director: Morgan Beggs Network: The CW, airs Friday nights Original Telecast: February 5, 2011 Look who’s finally back. It’s seems like a long time since we last saw a new SMALLVILLE episode, right? What’s the deal with that? No matter, Clark (Tom Welling) and company are back, and I have to say, I was impressed. Then again, if SMALLVILLE had screwed up this episode, there would have been no hope for the season. It’s the comeback episode after a long break. It’s based off of one of the […]Read On »

It’s hard to believe that SMALLVILLE is coming to an end after 10 seasons on the air, but this Spring, Clark Kent (Tom Welling) will finally grow into the Superman we all know and love. And guiding Clark on his mission since Season 4 (obviously and not so obviously)  has been Lois Lane played to perfection by Erica Durance. The timeline for SMALLVILLE has clearly veered from the pre-existing Superman mythology to take some wonderful detours along the way – and this year alone, Clark has already proposed to Lois which has taken the Lois and Clark relationship into new […]Read On »

Looks like Brandon Routh will be shedding some Kryptonian tears – the actor is no longer the Man of Steel in the new SUPERMAN movie currently dubbed SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL. The new Zack Snyder directed reboot (which will be produced by THE DARK KNIGHT’s Christopher Nolan) has picked a new Clark Kent/Superman and his name is Henry Cavill (best known for Showtime’s THE TUDORS). Following on the heels of British actor Andrew Garfield playing Spider-Man in Sony’s superhero reboot, Cavill also happens to be a Brit. Cavill was on the short list to play Superman many years ago when […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: SMALLVILLE producers Brian Wayne Peterson and Kelly Souders talk about Season 10

Who would have guessed that SMALLVILLE would have survived 10 years and two networks to live on as the longest running Superman-inspired series on television. From the inspired storytelling that took a young Clark Kent (Tom Welling) and chronicled his formative years before he became Superman, the series has taken many twists and turns, while also telling its own revisionist history of Kryptonians favorite son. As they get closer to the Season 10 series finale, executive producers Brian Wayne Peterson and Kelly Souders spoke with ASSIGNMENT X in this exclusive interview about where SMALLVILLE is going (without getting too spoilery […]Read On »

TV Review: SMALLVILLE – SEASON 10 – “Lazarus” – Season Premiere

Erica Durance in SMALLVILLE - Season 10 - "Lazurus" | ©2010 The CW/Jack Rowand

“And now, the final season of SMALLVILLE.” This is how it begins, a solemn reminder that SMALLVILLE will be no more after ten seasons, followed by a whole lot of confusion. Seriously, so much happened in “Lazarus” that it’s kind of hard to know where to begin. Clark (Tom Welling) being given a second chance after having a near death experience only to be told by Jor-El (Terence Stamp) that he is somehow failing in his duties as a hero. Even better, Clark has a full on hallucination when he receives a visit from his deceased father, Jonathon (John Schneider). Oliver (Justin Hartley) being held captive by someone or something. Chloe (Allison Mack) trading herself for his freedom. Lois (Erica Durance) discovering Clark’s secret, being kidnapped by a Lex clone (Mackenzie Gray), then bolting to Africa after Clark saves her. And yes, you read correctly, a Lex clone. Several actually, including a young (and now only surviving) version of Lex, or Alexander as he is known (Jakob Davies), that Tess (Cassidy Freeman) decides to adopt.
