Paramount Pictures recently held the Los Angeles Premiere of JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Fans, as usual, lined the street to see the stars and screaming as they arrived. JACK RYAN is Tom Clancy’s most iconic character in his books and this suspense thriller the JACK RYAN character is played by Chris Pine, who brings the character to life. As the composer who first put Pixar on the CG toon map with TOY STORY, Randy Newman has had a gleefully antic time with the company’s armadas of cute playthings and bugs. Disney•Pixar held the World Premiere of BRAVE, part of the Los Angeles Film Festival at the Grand Opening of the Dolby Theatre (formally Kodak Theatre) in Hollywood on June 18th. VisitScotland sponsored the premiere. Everything was green like the hills of Scotland! The Director, Mark Andrews showed up wearing a kilt. Bag Pipers came down the carpet playing, which was really cool! Fans lined the street. Red curly wigs were handed out to a few photographers who posed with Kelly Macdonald (I was one, but sorry no picture). Kevin Nealon wore one of the wigs as he walked the carpet. […]Read On »

CD review: CARS 2 original soundtrack

Though not  nearly as well reviewed a Pixar film as UP, but a whole lot of fun to listen to in any case, is CARS 2. Where Randy Newman’s more straight-laced approach was more fitting for the original’s desert-bound setting of Radiator Springs, Giacchino’s now taken over the driver’s seat with a considerable shot of adrenalin for this commercially flashy, globe-hopping sequel. Fans of Giacchino’s spy stylings for THE INCREDIBLES, ALIAS and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 3 (not to mention his ultra-help sore for SPEED RACER) will be happy with the oodles of hip 007 / Derek Flint / Austin Powers action […]Read On »

It’s not easy to follow in the footsteps of Randy Newman, even for Randy Newman, given the diminishing returns of the sequels to the undeniably great MEET THE PARENTS. And while the third time isn’t a charm for the at-times amusing LITTLE FOCKERS, composer Stephen Trask certainly does his darndest to make things funny.
