At the risk of printing a big spoiler, Mark Ruffalo would like to make known what his most memorable moment was during the filming of THE AVENGERS. In playing Dr. Bruce Banner, who when angry turns into the formidable huge green Hulk, it would seem that Ruffalo has plenty of moments to choose from. At a press conference to promote the film, Ruffalo’s cohorts Robert Downey Jr., who plays Tony Stark/Iron Man, and Chris Hemsworth, who portrays Thor, both cite the scene when all the superheroes are together for the first time. Ruffalo, however, has a different moment. “Mine was […]Read On »

THE AVENGERS Chris Evans Captain America | (c) 2012 Walt Disney/Zade Rosenthal

THE AVENGERS isn’t Chris Evans first time out as Steve Rogers, aka, Captain America – he donned the red, white and blue outfit for the 2011 CAPTAIN AMERICA movie, set during WWII. For that matter, Cap isn’t even Evans’ first Marvel superhero character – he previously played Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, in 2005’s FANTASTIC FOUR and its 2007 sequel, FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER. However, a few elements set Steve Rogers/Cap apart from other characters Evans has portrayed. For one thing, Rogers got frozen in the Forties and woke up in the present. The modern world […]Read On »

Of all the actors in THE AVENGERS, Robert Downey, Jr. has the most experience with his character Tony Stark, aka Iron Man. Downey previously played the billionaire genius inventor smartass in IRON MAN and IRON MAN 2, plus an uncredited cameo at the end of THE HULK. However, this is his first time sharing the screen with Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and even Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk (Edward Norton had the role when Tony Stark last visited him). It’s also Downey’s first time working with AVENGERS writer/director Joss Whedon. In person, […]Read On »

Not kidding.” At a second press conference immediately following this, AVENGERS writer/director Joss Whedon was asked about this. His response: “It’s Robert. Of course he’s kidding.” Who’s the real kidder here? Tell us what you think! Our guess, is it might be a new coda that will appear after the end credits like all the Marvel movies tend to drop in at the last minute. […]Read On »

CD Review: SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS soundtrack

SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS soundtrack | ©2011 Water Tower Music

Sherlock Holmes was always a bit of a stuffed British shirt before Guy Ritchie gave him a rock and roll, martial arts attitude that re-invigorated the character with his SHERLOCK HOLMES franchise and its latest installment SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS. Part and pipe of Ritchie’s in-your-face makeover was Hans Zimmer’s audacious score, whose crashing player pianos, scratchy strings and bombastic orchestra gave a terrifically fun, steampunk attitude to Holmes, in much the same way as his defiantly anti-historical music brought unexpected juice to the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN soundtracks. Now Holmes and his ever reluctant partner Watson are […]Read On »
