SPEECHLESS, now on ABC Friday nights in its third season, follows the adventures of the DiMeo family. Mom Maya (Minnie Driver) is fiercely protective of teen son JJ (Micah Fowler, who like his character has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair), so much so that other son Ray (Mason Cook) sometimes feels neglected. Daughter Dylan (Kyla Kenedy) is trying to navigate her own way through puberty. Dad Jimmy (John Ross Bowie) wants to be supportive, and JJ’s aide Kenneth (Cedric Yarbrough) works to stand up for JJ and for himself. SPEECHLESS creator/executive producer Scott Silveri (a writer/producer on FRIENDS, co-creator […]Read On »

ABC’s SPEECHLESS, now in its second season on Wednesday nights, revolves around the DiMeo family. There are three kids in the family – Ray (Mason Cook), Dylan (Kyla Kenedy) and JJ (Micah Fowler) – but mom Maya’s energies are mainly spent on making sure the world treats JJ right. This is because JJ, now in high school, has cerebral palsy. He uses a wheelchair and requires someone else to voice his words for him. (Actor Fowler, who also has cerebral palsy, is able to speak on his own, but because JJ does not speak in SPEECHLESS, neither does the actor.) […]Read On »

In ABC’s Wednesday-night comedy SPEECHLESS, Kyla Kenedy plays Dylan DiMeo. Dylan is the athletic sole girl in a family that also includes high school students Ray (Mason Cook) and JJ (Micah Fowler). Prior to SPEECHLESS, Kenedy has also had arcs on THE NEW NORMAL and THE NIGHT SHIFT. The young actress from Charleston, SC, was also in six episodes of THE WALKING DEAD, where she memorably portrayed Mika […]Read On »

TV Review: GO ON – Season 1 – “Pilot”

Stars: Matthew Perry, Laura Benanti, Julie White, John Cho Writer: Scott Silveri, series created by Scott Silveri Director: Todd Holland Network: NBC, Tuesdays Original Airdate: August 8, 2012 As Los Angeles Times reviewer Mary McNamara just observed, television has done very well with both psychotherapy (FRASIER, THE BOB NEWHART SHOW) and Matthew Perry (FRIENDS) in the half-hour comedy genre. Putting the two together seems like a good idea. The first twist in GO ON is that Perry’s character, snarky and closed-off radio sportscaster Ryan, is a patient rather than the therapist, which works very well. When we meet Ryan, his […]Read On »
