The 2011 EyeGore Awards were held at Universal Studios Hollywood on Friday night – just as Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights kicked off its annual haunted park event. Corey Feldman hosted the event with a CHILDREN OF THE CORN-esque stage backdrop providing fodder as a scarecrow proved to be Feldman’s comedic foil throughout the night. David Arquette won for his role in the SCREAM movie franchise. After accepting the award from his friend Thomas Jane, Arquette said, “I love the support of horror fans and the things they love. They’re a bunch of goofballs, just like me.” Bailee Madison, the […]Read On »

CD Review: SCREAM: THE DELUXE EDITION soundtrack (2,000 limited edition)

SCREAM soundtrack | ©2011 Varese Sarabande Records

Sure horror scores before 1996 raised their voice more than occasionally. But it took Marco Beltrami to send the genre into a true fugue state with the cacophony of SCREAM’s outrageous symphonic kills, creating a whole new impactful sound for slashers and demons alike, not to mention setting the thematic template for three more franchise scores to come. Music fans with subtler tastes might chide SCREAM for being over the top. Yet that was exactly the right tone for writer Kevin Smith’s satiric takedown of the genre. Though he himself might not have been into a horror geek like SCREAM’s […]Read On »

Interview: SCREAM 4 star Neve Campbell screams again

Neve Campbell in SCRE4M | ©2011 Dimension Films

There are only a handful of horror movie heroine/survivors that have made it past a couple of movies with their wits and body parts intact. The short list includes Jamie Lee Curtis who starred as Laurie Strode in four of the HALLOWEEN films, Sigourney Weaver as Ripley in four ALIEN films and now tying their record is Neve Campbell returning for SCREAM 4 (aka SCRE4M) as heroine Sidney Prescott. Sidney has outlasted and outwitted the elusive Ghost Face killer (and killers) in the previous three movies and in this fourth installment she returns to her hometown of Woodsboro for a […]Read On »

Interview: SCREAM 4 director Wes Craven takes another STAB at the franchise with SCRE4M

Ghost Face in SCRE4M | ©2011 Dimension Films

Most filmmakers are lucky to have one major franchise to their name in their career, but Wes Craven has managed to have two with A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and the SCREAM movies to his name. Throw in THE HILLS HAVE EYES and LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT (which have both been remade from his seminal 1970s films) and the director has proven to be one of horror’s continual masters and a force to be reckoned with.   With SCRE4M (aka SCREAM 4), Craven returns for the fourth go-around to the venerable horror franchise that started in 1996 and has […]Read On »

Blu-ray Review: SCREAM 3

SCREAM 3 Blu-ray | ©2011 Lionsgate

Rating: R Stars: David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Patrick Dempsey, Scott Foley, Lance Henriksen, Matt Keeslar, Jenny McCarthy, Emily Mortimer, Parker Posey, Deon Richmond, Patrick Warburton Writer: Ehren Kruger Director: Wes Craven Distributor: Lionsgate Suggested Retail Price: $19.99 After two really good films, the SCREAM franchise took a huge nosedive with 2000’s virtually unwatchable SCREAM 3. A very lazy film (when you compare it to the ambitions screenwriter Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven were going for in SCREAM 2), SCREAM 3 is a hodge podge of unfunny comedy, crazy back story and very few actual scares. Williamson is nowhere […]Read On »

Rating: R Stars: David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jamie Kennedy, Laurie Metcalf, Jerry O’Connell, Jada Pinkett, Live Schreiber Writer: Kevin Williamson Director: Wes Craven Distributor: Lionsgate Suggested Retail Price: $19.99 It was certainly going to take a lot to deliver a satisfying follow-up to the surprise hit SCREAM, but by bringing back most of the surviving cast, writer Kevin Williamson and director Wes Craven, SCREAM 2 proved to be a halfway decent horror sequel. Rating: R Stars: David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, Drew Barrymore Writer: Kevin Williamson Director: Wes Craven Distributor: Lionsgate Suggested Retail Price: $19.99 Back in 1996, the horror genre had died a horrible, violent death. The studios avoided it like the plague and terrible direct-to-DVD fodder was the only way a fan could get a fix. Then SCREAM arrived and turned everything on its head. Written by newcomer Kevin Williamson and directed by genre vet Wes Craven, they created a scary horror film once again  – it also poked fun at its conventions. It […]Read On »
