ABC’s series THE ROOKIE is now on Tuesday nights in its sixth season, available the next day on Hulu, and has been renewed for a seventh. The show’s title character, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), started the series as a fortyish LAPD rookie, and has since become a training officer for other rookies. While Fillion receives top billing, THE ROOKIE has evolved into an ensemble dramedy, in which all of the regular characters get substantial storylines. Therefore, when THE ROOKIE does a presentation during ABC’s portion of the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter 2024 press tour, the whole ensemble cast is […]Read On »

In Season 2 of THE ROOKIE, Sunday nights on ABC, Nathan Fillion’s title character, John Nolan, continues his education as the oldest rookie in the LAPD. This season, he’s got a new training officer, Nyla Harper (played by Mekia Cox), a former undercover officer. Harper was written in after Afton Williamson, who played the rookie’s previous training officer Talia Bishop, left the series complaining of sexual harassment by a guest actor and a crew member. Other changes on THE ROOKIE involve Nolan’s fellow trainee Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) surviving being kidnapped and buried alive by a serial killer, Lucy’s training […]Read On »

Shawn Ashmore stars as Mike in Season 3 of THE FOLLOWING | © 2015 Giovanni Rufino/FOX

It’s easy to feel for FBI Special Agent Mike Weston, the character Shawn Ashmore plays on Fox’s THE FOLLOWING, now in its third season, Mondays at 9 PM. Mike has been tortured, taunted, at one point abandoned by his mentor, fellow agent Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon), seen his own father murdered on camera and been antagonized into breaking the law and killing one of the people responsible (which Ryan helped cover up). Ashmore, who plays Bobby Drake aka Iceman in the X-MEN feature film series, does his best to talk about THE FOLLOWING without giving away too much. At a […]Read On »

At the press event for THE FOLLOWING, cast and crew of the show gave the lowdown about what we will see when the show returns in January of 2014 for its second season during the annual San Diego Comic-Con 2013. Shawn Ashmore, who plays Mike Weston, talked about what his character will be going through. “There’s a time jump. We pick up about a year after the events of the season 1 finale. Westin is still being affected by what happened in the first season. He lost two partners. Ryan and Mike basically tortured and executed a prisoner. So there […]Read On »

TV Review: THE FOLLOWING – Season 1 – “Welcome Home”

Agent Weston (Shawn Ashmore) leaves for his hotel in THE FOLLOWING "Welcome Home" | (c) 2013 David Giesbrecht/FOX

Stars: Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy, Natalie Zea, Shawn Ashmore, Annie Parisse, Billy Brown, Valorie Curry, Warren Kole Writers: Amanda Kate Shuman Director: Joshua Butler Network: Airs on Fox, Mondays @ 9 p.m. Original Telecast: March 11, 2013 This week’s episode of THE FOLLOWING was space filler while the pieces get set in place for whatever comes next on the show. Perhaps the biggest bit of information we received in “Welcome Home” was the reveal of Roderick (Warren Kole), a small town sheriff and right hand man to Joe Carroll (James Purefoy). While on the outside Roderick seems like a likeable […]Read On »

TV Review: THE FOLLOWING – Season 1 – “Let Me Go”

Emma (Valorie Curry) protects Joey (Kyle Catlett) in "Let Me Go" on THE FOLLOWING | (c) 2013 Fox

Stars: Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy, Natalie Zea, Shawn Ashmore, Annie Parisse, Billy Brown, Valorie Curry Writers: Seamus Kevin Fahey Director: Nick Gomez Network: Airs on Fox, Mondays @ 9 p.m. Original Telecast: March 4, 2013 Now that THE FOLLOWING has been picked up for a Season 2 probably what they had in store for the finale of the show may be changing. Then again, maybe they were confident enough to leave it open from the get-go. I just hope they re-examine in Season 2 how to treat members of the criminal justice brotherhood going forward because someone on the show […]Read On »

TV Review: THE FOLLOWING – Season 1 – “The Fall”

Stars: Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy, Natalie Zea, Shawn Ashmore, Jeananne Goossen, Billy Brown Writer: Shintaro Shimosawa Director: Marcos Siega Network: Fox, airs Monday nights Original Telecast: February 24, 2013 It’s been awhile since I’ve been thoroughly frustrated with a show that I actually kind of like. THE FOLLOWING has proven to be one of the more interesting and engrossing network shows in some time, yet for all the positives it has going for it (occasional clever writing, Kevin Bacon, a creepy villain), it matches that with character stupidity and plot contrivances that really push how much a viewer can take […]Read On »

Former FBI agent Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) is brought in to track down Joe Carroll in THE FOLLOWING | (c) 2013 Fox

Stars: Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy, Natalie Zea, Shawn Ashmore, Jeananne Goossen, Billy Brown Writers: Kevin Williamson Director: Marcos Siega Network: Airs on Fox, Mondays @ 9 p.m. Original Telecast: Jan. 21, 2013 Having watched every episode of the excellent Fox series 24, I wasn’t sure how THE FOLLOWING might follow in its footsteps (if at all) or if it would be an altogether new series. Turns out from the initial “Pilot” episode, it will be a bit of both. First off, THE FOLLOWING appears it won’t be for the faint of heart. There were literally dead bodies everywhere in the […]Read On »
