In Fox’s freshman Thursday-night drama DEPUTY, due to an arcane rule, Deputy Bill Hollister (Stephen Dorff), is unexpectedly promoted to Acting Sheriff of Los Angeles County. This has a ripple effect on everyone around him, especially Bill’s wife, trauma surgeon Paula Reyes, played by Yara Martinez. Fox’s freshman Thursday-night drama DEPUTY deals with what happens when Los Angeles county Sheriff’s Department Deputy Bill Hollister (played by Stephen Dorff) is unexpectedly made acting sheriff. The series is created by Will Beall, but executive producers David Ayer and Chris Long had a lot of input into DEPUTY’s formation. Ayer directed the pilot and Episode 2, “Outlaws.” Ayer, a Navy veteran who served on a nuclear submarine, is known for his work on feature films, many of which have law enforcement themes.
