Rating: R Stars: Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Vanessa Redgrave, Sienna Miller Writers: E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman Director: Bennett Miller Distributor: Sony Pictures Classics Release Date: November 14, 2014 FOXCATCHER is a disturbing film, and not only because of the true-life events it depicts, though those are certainly unnerving and dismaying. Director Bennett Miller, working from a screenplay by E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman, creates an atmosphere of unhappiness and shame that works as an emotional fog. However, through all the sweat, tears and finally blood that appears here, we feel as though we’re watching at […]Read On »

ANCHORMAN 2 - THE LEGEND CONTINUES movie poster | ©2013 Paramount Pictures

Stars: Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, Christina Applegate, Meagan Good, James Marsden, Kristen Wiig Writers: Will Ferrell, Adam McKay Director: Adam McKay Release Date: December 18, 2013 Distributor: Paramount Pictures It’s a given that it’s getting harder to create funny mainstream comedies with the bar so heavily skewed in the direction of lowest common denominator crass, potty humor. Rating: PG Stars (voices): Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Benjamin Bratt, Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand Writers: Ken Daurio & Cinco Paul Directors: Pierre Coffin & Chris Renaud Distributor: Universal Release Date: July 3, 2013 Between the 2010 release of the original DESPICABLE ME and its new sequel, DESPICABLE ME 2, the filmmakers seem to have figured out that their primary selling point is not their main character Gru (voiced by Steve Carell), now a reformed villain and not the, well, despicable figure he was in the original. It’s not even the trio of cute little girls he adopted last time around. […]Read On »

It’s rare for a series to be created by one network and then set up at another, but that’s what happened with the new comedy series THE MINDY PROJECT from THE OFFICE actor-writer-producer Mindy Kaling. The series almost made the cut on the Peacock Network schedule, but when it was passed on, it was instantly set up at Fox for a fall birth. At NBCUniversal’s Summer 2012 Press Tour, NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke addressed the network shift for the series. “We developed THE MINDY PROJECT and loved it at the network,” Salke reveals. “We felt like, knock on wood, […]Read On »

After spending eight seasons on THE OFFICE as a writer, producer and performer, Mindy Kaling is now headlining a new Fox comedy that she created and stars in called THE MINDY PROJECT. In the series, she plays an OB/GYN who discovers that love is not the way it’s portrayed in romantic movies. In many ways, she feels her character on the show is very similar to Michael Scott (Steve Carell) from THE OFFICE. The fun thing about this character, not unlike Michael Scott in some ways, is she wants to be a better person,” says Kaling, while talking about the […]Read On »
