BATMAN (1989) movie poster | ©1989 Warner Bros.

With the brooding Christopher Nolan directed THE DARK KNIGHT RISES about to hit theaters, people forget that the original BATMAN movie from Tim Burton in 1989 was also perceived as the darkest superhero movie up until that point. While promoting his FRANKENWEENIE stop-motion animated movie at Comic-Con in San Diego, the director remembers the nervousness surrounding his vision and how it compares now with all these dark superhero movies hitting the theaters. “I recall back when we were doing BATMAN how people were worried that it was ‘too dark’, but now it looks like a light-hearted romp – BATMAN ON […]Read On »

Jackson – THE TOWN, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL and 28 WEEKS LATER. Movie Review: CHRONICLE

CHRONICLE movie poster | ©2012 20th Century Fox

Rating: PG-13 Stars: Dane Dehaan, Alex Russell, Michael B. Jorgan, Michael Kelly, Ashley Hinshaw Writer: Max Landis, story by Max Landis & Josh Trank Director: Josh Trank Distributor: Twentieth Century Fox Release Date: February 3, 2012 Two things should be noted upfront about CHRONICLE. The first is that, in itself, it’s a very good movie. The second is that it proves there are still new things to say about the genre of superpowers (“superheroes” would be a misstatement in this instance). A “found footage” movie, CHRONICLE begins when teen loner Andrew (Dane Dehaan) obtains an old video camera and starts […]Read On »

CD Review: GREEN LANTERN original soundtrack

GREEN LANTERN soundtrack | ©2011 Watertower Music

Not only does this summer stand as having the some of the strongest superhero movies in memory row, but also for having two of those pictures feature characters who were likely voted most impossible to pull off for live action. First there was the mystical might of the Marvel god THOR, whose Asgardian grandeur was impressively hammered in by Patrick Doyle with a symphonic/ percussive score that virtually rebooted Doyle’s old-school orchestral sound to new levels of young Hollywood hipness. Then in the DC corner, there’s the GREEN LANTERN, Earth’s recruit to a legion of space cops who make the […]Read On »

During WonderCon 2011, Blake Lively, who plays Carol Ferris in the upcoming Warner Bros. film GREEN LANTERN (due in theaters on June 17, 2011), took some time to explain why the film  will appeal to more than just men who enjoy action flicks. “Someone said something about a six-pack and all the women in the audience [viewing the trailer at the WonderCon panel] started screaming and throwing their first borns,” Lively says. “I think it is nice for women to see other women portrayed as a strong and powerful person. You don’t see this is the man, this is the hero […]Read On »
