Composer George Fenton parks with THE LADY IN THE VAN – Interview

THE LADY IN THE VAN soundtrack | ©2016 Sony Classical Records

If one might have the cliched attitude of old school English composers as adhering rigorously to the classically imperious music of Queen and Country, then they likely haven’t heard much of George Fenton’s prolific work over the last four or so decades, let alone had a crotchety, crazy old lady parked in their driveway for fifteen of them. Not only has Fenton contributed one of his most delightfully attitude-filled scores to represent THE LADY IN THE VAN, but he also has the distinction of having actually met the fearsome Ms. Shepherd, a curmudgeonly homeless woman who became a grudgingly accepted […]Read On »

In Syfy’s Friday-night 12 MONKEYS, adapted from the 1995 Terry Gilliam film, which was in turn adapted from the French short LA JETEE, the human race is almost wiped out by a virus in 2015. In 2040, James Cole (Aaron Stanford) is sent back to 2015 to try to change history. Cole and Jose Ramse, played by Kirk Acevedo, start out as best friends in 2040, but as Jose realizes that Cole’s efforts could prevent Jose’s family from existing, the relationship turns to one of enmity. Acevedo is no stranger to science-fiction and primates – last summer, he appeared as […]Read On »

12 MONKEYS co-star Noah Bean talks Season 1 – exclusive interview

Aaron Stanford stars as James Cole in SyFy's 12 MONKEYS | © 2015 Ben Mark Holzberg/Syfy

In Syfy’s 12 MONKEYS, Fridays at 9 PM, a plague wipes out humanity in 2015. Almost three decades later, unreliable time travel has been invented, and a small group of scientists send James Cole (Aaron Stanford) into the past to try to prevent the outbreak from happening. Cole teams up in the present with Dr. Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull). This, at least initially, is of great alarm to Railly’s ex-fiancé Aaron Marker, played by Noah Bean. Bean previously worked with 12 MONKEYS co-creators Travis Fickett and Terry Matalas (the TV version is based in part on an original work by […]Read On »

On Syfy’s 12 MONKEYS, Fridays at 9 PM, the world’s population has been almost wiped out by a devastating plague and most of the survivors are vicious to the point of being bestial. A small group of scientists send James Cole (Aaron Stanford) back in time to 2015, just before the plague breaks out, in the hopes that he can prevent it from spreading and thus change history. 12 MONKEYS is based on the 1995 feature film TWELVE MONKEYS, directed by Terry Gilliam from a screenplay by David Webb Peeples & Janet Peeples, which is itself based on the French […]Read On »

CD Review: THE ZERO THEOREM soundtrack

THE ZERO THEOREM soundtrack | ©2014 Milan Records

When you think back to Terry Gilliam’s latter good old days with THE FISHER KING, TWELVE MONKEYS and arguably FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS, the directors’ movies worked so strikingly well by being simultaneously mind-blowing and nightmare-inducing acid trips, unleashing exaggerated performances and imagery that tended to turn the world into a dystopian wonderland. It’s a sad sign of how far Gilliam has fallen since THE BROTHERS GRIMM that BRAZIL and TWELVE MONKEYS have gotten upchucked as THE ZERO THEOREM which equals near insufferability – though not without Gilliam’s seemingly unbreakable visual talent on display. But the one element […]Read On »

Interview: Madeleine Stowe gets a taste of REVENGE

Madeleine Stowe in REVENGE - Season 1 - "Charade" | ©2011 ABC/Colleen Hayes

In ABC’s new hit series REVENGE, Wednesdays at 10 PM, Emily VanCamp plays Emily Thorne, who returns under an assumed identity to the upscale community in the Hamptons where she lived as a child. Emily’s goal is to get revenge (see the title) on the people who sent her beloved father to jail for life and ruined her younger years. There’s plenty of collateral damage, but Emily’s principal target is Madeleine Stowe’s character Victoria Grayson, who rules the enclave as its unofficially anointed queen. Stowe, a Los Angeles native, had audiences swooning as the heroine in LAST OF THE MOHICANS. […]Read On »
