In Syfy’s new series ALPHAS, airing Mondays at 10 PM, five very different people with unique mental abilities have been brought together to work for the government. The only one of the group who has previous government experience is Malik Yoba’s character Bill Harken, a former FBI agent who can summon super-strength at the cost of being depleted afterward. New York-born Yoba has played law enforcement types before – he starred as NYPD Detective J.C. There’s not much to say about the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, except that as much as they promised to be young and hip by hiring James Franco and Anne Hathaway to host, it was still the same old Academy Awards. Translation: few surprises, a dearth of actual laughs and predominantly canned speeches lacking any emotion or wit. That said, THE KING’S SPEECH took home the Best Picture title, while frontrunners Colin Firth won for Best Actor in SPEECH and Natalie Portman for Best Actress in BLACK SWAN. I’m sorry, but I couldn’t limit my ranting to just one subject this week. There are just too many things that make me ranty. Dancing with the Polarizing Political Figures Professional witch-denier and all-around dummy Christine O’Donnell says she has been approached to be on ABC’s DANCING WITH THE STARS. In a related story, I’m going to file a class action suit against ABC for claiming that this show features stars. Christine O’Donnell? Really? What, you couldn’t get Michael Vick? Movie Review: THE KING’S SPEECH

A stressed-out man with a lifelong stammer goes to a speech therapist for help with public speaking. If this doesn’t sound like especially fertile ground for gripping drama, let’s add that the year at the start is 1934, the stammerer in question is the British Prince Albert (Colin Firth) and that his therapist is commoner Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), an Australian immigrant and family man with a passion for acting that is, alas, more enthusiastic than artistic.
