The World Premiere of New Line Cinema’s THE RITE was held Wednesday, January 26th at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. THE RITE is inspired by a true story and based on the book THE MODERN DAY EXORCIST by Matt Baglio. Father Gary Thomas might find doing press for the film THE RITE, something of an odd occurrence. The Catholic priest is the basis for the book THE RITE: THE MAKING OF A MODERN EXORCIST , which is of course now a movie starring Anthony Hopkins and hits theaters today. Thomas the pastor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Saratoga, has his normal daily duties involving his parish and his parishioners, but when called to it, he also is one of the areas few practicing exorcist priests. Movie Review: THE RITE

THE RITE is actually based on the book “The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist” which follows real-life Catholic exorcist priest Father Gary Thomas and illustrates various points in his journey. The movie is ‘inspired by true-events’ so there is no really conclusive way to figure out where the original story ends and the Hollywood version starts. Still, the movie is an entertaining ride of white-knuckled tension that leaves the audience waiting for something diabolical to surface in scenes where there is actually nothing to indicate a scare.

Sir Anthony Hopkins is no stranger to horror films or thrillers. Since THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, he has been a part of some of the most memorable big screen scares of the last two decades.
