Margo Martindale very rightly won a Supporting Actress Emmy for her indelible portrayal of backwoods crime queen Mags Bennett on JUSTIFIED in that series’ second season. Since then, the prolific Texas-born actress appeared on two short-lived TV shows, CHAOS and A GIFTED MAN, before playing opposite Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper in the feature film AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY. In 2013, Martindale took on two television roles that are still ongoing. One is KGB spymaster Claudia, aka Granny, on FX’s THE AMERICANS, which begins its second season Feb. 26. For its first four seasons, THE LEAGUE, the half-hour comedy created by Jackie and Jeff Schaffer, was a staple for FX Network. Now FX is moving THE LEAGUE to its new outlet FXX for the show’s fifth season, which debuted Wednesday September 4 at 10:30 PM, following fellow FX transfer IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, which is now on FXX Wednesdays at 10 PM. Asked about the move, Paul Scheer, who plays THE LEAGUE’s much-bullied Andre, quips, “I was just happy that FXX isn’t a p**n channel. For a little bit, I was confused we’d be there.” Scheer, a native […]Read On »

On July 29th a big party was held by CBS/The CW/Showtime for the Television Critics Annual Summer Press Tour at The Event, which is actually the upper parking lot where the department store Robinson’s/May in Beverly Hills used to be. Taking pictures before heading inside it was quite a turnout of stars from the three networks of their new shows and returning shows of the three networks CBS, The CW and Showtime. I probably missed a few as I went in as soon as the cast from the CW new show THE ORIGINALS, a spin-off from THE VAMPIRE DAIRIES walked […]Read On »

Will Arnett and Christina Applegate in UP ALL NIGHT - Season 1 - "Pilot" | ©2011 NBC/Trae Patton

Even though NBC gave its plum post THE OFFICE time slot to the traditional sitcom WHITNEY this fall, NBC has been very encouraged by the single camera comedy UP ALL NIGHT starring Christina Applegate and Will Arnett that’s been holding its own on Wednesday nights. That’s one of the reasons NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt decided to move UP ALL NIGHT to Thursday nights at 9:30 midseason and spoke about the change at today’s TCA press tour. “We’re very buoyed by UP ALL NIGHT,” says Greenblatt. “It’s creatively strong and getting stronger. It was thrown out on its own on […]Read On »

Stars: Christina Applegate, Will Arnett, Maya Rudolph Writer: Emily Spivey Director: James Griffiths Network: NBC, airs Wednesday nights Original Telecast: September 14, 2011 It’s been a tough road for NBC the last couple of years what with mergers and executive turnovers, but the new comedy UP ALL NIGHT could potentially turn things around. A clever comedy that’s hinged on a familiar concept (parents of a newborn must cope with their new baby-filled life) is elevated with the excellent casting of Christina Applegate and Will Arnett. Additionally it has the rich pedigree of former SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE writer Emily Spivey who […]Read On »
